“Old Maid’s Ramble”, Owner, Susan Martin, 500 Hippe-Agee Road, Millville, KY, VC 38̊06’39.06”N 84̊50’ 59.41”W. Mike and Susan Martin purchased this farm on December 19, 2006. Susan chose this pattern for its striking design in displaying the colors of her parent’s racing silks and its blend of color with her landscape. Susan’s parents, Edgar and Bell Kitchen were in the thoroughbred business. They became members of the Keeneland Club in the mid 1950’s. Their racing silks were two shades of green. The body of the silks was bottle green with a K on the front and back, and three circles on each sleeve in a kelly green.
Oscar and Jenny Goodrich established their home and this farm around 1920. Jennie’s parents were Charlie and Meg Hippe. Oscar and Jenny spent their lifetime caring for their family in this home. The barn was built in 1936 by Lee Beihn and his son Robert. All of the post and rails used in the barn were cut on Elmer Goodrich’s farm and drug by horses to the barn site.
A grandson, Steve Goodrich, bought the farm and remolded the home. Later, he built a new home near the barn, and his sister, Lisa, moved into the old home place. In 2002, the original home place burned. No one was home when the fire started and firemen could not save the home that held so many memories for this family.
